Written by Ellis & Cephas (Mil-Smith – BMI)

Produced by Milton Smith in Mobile, Alabama.

Side A originally released in 1979 on Von’s Records V-108-B. Side B originally released in 1979 on Mil-Smi Records MSR-119-A.

When Egon and Cut Chemist made their series of Gulf Coast runs in 2000 and 2001,blasting Dante Carfagna’s Home Of The Schlitz tape in between Eddie 3 Way’s One Stop in New Orleans and Milton Smith’s record stores/barber shop in Mobile, Alabama, the duo were searching more for the hard funk recently reissued on Tramp Records’ 7-inch single featuring Skin Williams & The Soulfadelics. Luckily, the two discovered other, more soulful records that Smith released on his Mil-Smi, Von?s and Burning Bush imprints.

Two modern soul/disco tunes finally saw release on the Soul-Cal 12-inch Giant Single – Ellis and Cephas’s “I’m Gonna Miss You Girl” and “Heaven.” The former 45 has turned up in small quantity in the past five years and has exchanged hands for worthy sums. The latter only has a home in the most ardent of modern soul collectors’ boxes. And though Milton Smith, upon hearing “Heaven” in 2001 for the first time in over twenty years remarked, “Oh, they always did want to sound like the Bee Gees” (or something like that), you’ll be surprised just how funky it is.
